June 13 Decided to add to blog for some activities etc. in between long distance traveling in May back in September.
We have been
here a week. Lots of settling in with
groceries, laundry, and setting up the new bed in the extra bedroom. Dean’s 8th birthday was Saturday,
June 8, and we celebrated with a small family celebration. Monday, June 10, all day party planning and
set up at the Oceanview Park pavilion.

and it was well done! Pizza, cake and
pinata and lots of playing on the playground.
Set up at 3:30PM take down 8PM!
Tuesday, June 11, resting up, Dean’s baseball game. Rain held off with black clouds
hovering. Dean got two homeruns. Wednesday, June 12, we take the day out of
town. A drive down Turnagain Arm and see
the Dall sheep on the slopes. Tide is
out and water is nearly flat with no wind.
Partly cloudy but in mid-50’s. In
Indian, we stop at the Forget-Me-Knot Nursery.
It is our first time there and sits just below the Indian Meat
Company. It’s a very charming and rustic
setting with a huge open green house.
The hanging pots even on sale are very expensive, but they are grown
from seed. They are bit leggy so we only
buy some annuals, lovely geraniums and some veggies for planting at
Brenna’s. They are selling Cascade hops
vines. They get them from a woman in
Bird, Ak, who has a humongous plant.
They are invasive rhizomes that are great for privacy but it is not hot
enough to produce the hop flower. We
drive down to Portage lodge and visitor center, there are a few small icebergs
on the lake. The Lodge is for sale, they
continue to have a nice array of gifts and collectables. There are waterfalls on the steep mountain
sides from melt. The bridges and road
improvements on the Seward Highway are mostly finished, now putting a bike path
on the Portage Glacier Road. Can see
bison from the road, grazing inside the Conservation Center. Stop in Girdwood and visit the local artists
coop. Have dinner at Jack Sprat. Halibut cheek appetizer was okay, steak
entrée not exceptional as in the past.
Dessert was excellent.
Got a call
from Kathy Beecham, she and Greg are in Anchorage this week. We will meet them for dinner Thursday and
Friday this week. Peanut Farm?
Millennium patio? They leave on Saturday.
Weather has
been cool and rainy, much of summer still in play, will see how it plays out.
Pat and Chuck. What a great trip you had. I would really have liked to do the last part from Haines to Anchorage - the remoteness and the animals. You certainly seem to know your way around all of the restaurants along the way. Ray
